Description

Job Description:        Program Coordinator - Migrant Education

 

Purpose:                     The Program Coordinator is responsible for the planning, development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the Migrant Education program (MEP) in Lyons USD 405.

 

Responsible to:          Superintendent

 

Supervises:                 Migrant para-professionals

 

Qualifications:

 

  1. High school diploma
  2. Previous 2 years experience in the federal Migrant Education Program (MEP) - Part C of Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 is recommended
  3. Demonstrated ability to work with adults and students of different ages and grade levels
  4. Biligual (English and Spanish) and translating skills
  5. Demonstrated ability to work in an administrative role, an educative role, and a supportive role
  6. Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance
  7. Demonstrated communication skills, written and oral
  8. Proficiency in basic computer office suite skills
  9. Knowledge of budgeting practices
  10. Knowledge of instructional programs and practices
  11. Skills in conflict resolution and problem-solving strategies
  12. Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to MEP
  13. Ability to analyze data and prepare reports
  14. Additional qualifications as the Board of Education may determine appropriate     

 

Essential Functions:

 

  1. Develop, implement, coordinate and monitor all MEP components
  2. Collaborate and coordinate with community agencies to acquire services for migrant students
  3. Make presentations to the Board of Education and other agencies and groups
  4. Model the interpersonal skills necessary for the development of trusting relationships with staff
  5. Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and awareness through interactions with students, parents, and staff
  6. Communicate clearly and respectfully and demonstrate effective listening skills
  7. Provide an organizational structure that supports the work of staff and the objectives of the MEP
  8. Manage the daily operations of the MEP, ensuring compliance with MEP standards and funding source guidelines
  9. Ensure/monitor completion of reports, etc.
  10. Provide para-professional support in the classrooms to migrant students as needed
  11. Make personal contact at least monthly with each student and set of parents and more as necessary
  12. Communicate with the different School Administrators, Counselors and School Teachers
  13. Assist the MEP Recruiter on home visits as requested
  14. Conduct and attend the Migrant Parents Advisory Council (MPAC) town meetings
  15. Attend the State MPAC meeting(s)
  16. Communicate with different State agencies for the town MPAC meetings

 

 

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

 

  1. Ability to travel in personal or school district vehicle
  2. Needs to be flexible regarding scheduling, working conditions, and locations
  3. May require some physical exertion

 

General Responsibilities:

  1. Provide resource materials to parents and staff regarding migrant education issues and characteristics of migrant students
  2. Plan and facilitate MPAC meetings
  3. Assist with writing MEP handbooks and other materials available to parents
  4. Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with parents, staff, and community
  5. Refer students and their families to appropriate community agencies and services
  6. Assist with public awareness activities which lead to a better understanding of the educational needs of migrant students
  7. Order and maintain an adequate inventory of materials and supplies according to current budget
  8. Obtain from Superintendent advance approval for all special activities and expenditures according to the current budget
  9. Maintain appropriate confidential records and provide timely reports
  10. Keep student information and records confidential
  11. Respond to information requests in a cooperative, courteous, and timely manner
  12. Keep current on new information, innovative ideas and techniques by attending staff development activities and participating in professional growth opportunities
  13. Observe and follow all school district policies at all times
  14. Implement and follow all district health and safety policies
  15. Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent

 

Term of Employment:          At will

 

Payment Rate:                       Salary and benefits per Classified Handbook or as set by the Board of Education and/or Superintendent

 

Evaluation:                            Performance effectiveness will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Kansas Statutes and Board of Education Policy.

 

Job Title:                      English as a Second Language Assistant

 Purpose:                     The English as a Second Language Assistant assists the Instructor in                                              creating a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. To accomplish these tasks, the English as a Second Language Assistant works closely with the staff and administration of the District.

Responsible to:           Building Principal and Teacher

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Be fluent in English and another language.
  3. Ability to translate when necessary

4           Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office (after employment

offer is made).

5           Knowledge of the operation of various office machines.

  1. Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.
  2. Fluency in English and at least one additional language.

Essential Functions:

  1. Ability to assist in facilitating the personal, social, and intellectual development of

            students.

  1. Ability to assist in establishing a positive learning environment, and respond to

the individual needs of students.

  1. Ability to ensure all activities conform to District guidelines.
  2. Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the

            school district, families, and community.

  1. Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive

            manner, meeting deadlines as assigned.

  1. Ability to operate all classroom equipment appropriately as assigned.
  2. Ability to work to implement the vision and mission of the District.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

  1. Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous

interruptions.

  1. Requires stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and turning.

General Responsibilities:

  1. Ability to prepare for classroom activities under the supervision of a licensed teacher.
  2. Ability to work with small groups of students to reinforce material initially

introduced by the teacher.

  1. Ability to assist individual children in need of special educational attention.
  2. Ability to perform clerical duties.
  3. Ability to guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up

by the teacher.

  1. Ability to set up audiovisual equipment.
  2. Ability to assist teacher with non-instructional classroom duties, such as snack,

toilet, and clothing routines.

  1. Ability to assist with reading and storytelling.
  2. Ability to assist in drill and practice work.
  3. Ability to observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
  4. Ability to respond to information requests in a cooperative, courteous, and timely manner.
  5. Ability to keep student information and records confidential.
