Job Description: Program Coordinator - Migrant Education
Purpose: The Program Coordinator is responsible for the planning, development, implementation, monitoring and reporting of the Migrant Education program (MEP) in Lyons USD 405.
Responsible to: Superintendent
Supervises: Migrant para-professionals
Qualifications:
- High school diploma
- Previous 2 years experience in the federal Migrant Education Program (MEP) - Part C of Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 is recommended
- Demonstrated ability to work with adults and students of different ages and grade levels
- Biligual (English and Spanish) and translating skills
- Demonstrated ability to work in an administrative role, an educative role, and a supportive role
- Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance
- Demonstrated communication skills, written and oral
- Proficiency in basic computer office suite skills
- Knowledge of budgeting practices
- Knowledge of instructional programs and practices
- Skills in conflict resolution and problem-solving strategies
- Knowledge of federal and state regulations related to MEP
- Ability to analyze data and prepare reports
- Additional qualifications as the Board of Education may determine appropriate
Essential Functions:
- Develop, implement, coordinate and monitor all MEP components
- Collaborate and coordinate with community agencies to acquire services for migrant students
- Make presentations to the Board of Education and other agencies and groups
- Model the interpersonal skills necessary for the development of trusting relationships with staff
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and awareness through interactions with students, parents, and staff
- Communicate clearly and respectfully and demonstrate effective listening skills
- Provide an organizational structure that supports the work of staff and the objectives of the MEP
- Manage the daily operations of the MEP, ensuring compliance with MEP standards and funding source guidelines
- Ensure/monitor completion of reports, etc.
- Provide para-professional support in the classrooms to migrant students as needed
- Make personal contact at least monthly with each student and set of parents and more as necessary
- Communicate with the different School Administrators, Counselors and School Teachers
- Assist the MEP Recruiter on home visits as requested
- Conduct and attend the Migrant Parents Advisory Council (MPAC) town meetings
- Attend the State MPAC meeting(s)
- Communicate with different State agencies for the town MPAC meetings
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Ability to travel in personal or school district vehicle
- Needs to be flexible regarding scheduling, working conditions, and locations
- May require some physical exertion
General Responsibilities:
- Provide resource materials to parents and staff regarding migrant education issues and characteristics of migrant students
- Plan and facilitate MPAC meetings
- Assist with writing MEP handbooks and other materials available to parents
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal relationships with parents, staff, and community
- Refer students and their families to appropriate community agencies and services
- Assist with public awareness activities which lead to a better understanding of the educational needs of migrant students
- Order and maintain an adequate inventory of materials and supplies according to current budget
- Obtain from Superintendent advance approval for all special activities and expenditures according to the current budget
- Maintain appropriate confidential records and provide timely reports
- Keep student information and records confidential
- Respond to information requests in a cooperative, courteous, and timely manner
- Keep current on new information, innovative ideas and techniques by attending staff development activities and participating in professional growth opportunities
- Observe and follow all school district policies at all times
- Implement and follow all district health and safety policies
- Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as directed by the Superintendent

Payment Rate: Salary and benefits per Classified Handbook or as set by the Board of Education and/or Superintendent
Evaluation: Performance effectiveness will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of Kansas Statutes and Board of Education Policy.
Job Title: English as a Second Language Assistant
Purpose: The English as a Second Language Assistant assists the Instructor in creating a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social, and intellectual development of students. To accomplish these tasks, the English as a Second Language Assistant works closely with the staff and administration of the District.
Responsible to: Building Principal and Teacher
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Be fluent in English and another language.
- Ability to translate when necessary
4 Health and Inoculation Certificate on file in the Central Office (after employment
offer is made).
5 Knowledge of the operation of various office machines.
- Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.
- Fluency in English and at least one additional language.
Essential Functions:
- Ability to assist in facilitating the personal, social, and intellectual development of
students.
- Ability to assist in establishing a positive learning environment, and respond to
the individual needs of students.
- Ability to ensure all activities conform to District guidelines.
- Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
- Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments, with numerous
interruptions.

- Ability to prepare for classroom activities under the supervision of a licensed teacher.
- Ability to work with small groups of students to reinforce material initially
introduced by the teacher.
- Ability to assist individual children in need of special educational attention.
- Ability to perform clerical duties.
- Ability to guide independent study, enrichment work, and remedial work set up
by the teacher.
- Ability to set up audiovisual equipment.
- Ability to assist teacher with non-instructional classroom duties, such as snack,
toilet, and clothing routines.
- Ability to assist with reading and storytelling.
- Ability to assist in drill and practice work.
- Ability to observe and follow all school district policies at all times.
