Job title:                       Occupational Therapist, Registered

 

Purpose:                      The Occupational Therapist is to create a flexible program and an

                                    environment favorable to learning and motor skill development; to

                                    establish effective rapport with pupils; to motivate pupils to         

                                    develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good          

                                    foundation for education, in accordance with each pupil’s ability,

                                    to establish good relationships with parents and other staff         

                                    members.

 

Responsible to:           Building Principal, RCSSC director

 

Supervises:                  Classified personnel as assigned by the administration

                                    Cota’s within RCSSC

 

Qualifications: 

 

  1. Master of Science – Occupational Therapy, or equivalent.
  2. Current Kansas OT license in good standing.
  3. Current certification with National Board Certification of Occupational Therapists (NBCOT).

 

  1. Highly qualified as defined in the No Child Left Behind Legislation.

 

  1. Ability to convey information to students in a variety of methods to induce learning.

 

  1. Ability to use technology as an instructional tool.

 

  1. Ability to use appropriate classroom management skills that insure a positive learning environment.

 

  1. Keep active in understanding the current trends in the discipline.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  1. Screen and evaluate appropriately referred students.

 

  1. Provide direct or indirect therapy in individual and group sessions with written documentation to support interventions provided in each session/interaction.

 

  1. Consult with regular education teachers regarding appropriate classroom interventions.

 

  1. Help plan programs to be carried out by teacher/aide at school or parent(s) at home with supervision of OT as determined advisable by the IEP team.

 

  1. Maintain consultation with regular education/special education teachers about

students with motor/perceptual difficulties who do not qualify for services.

 

  1. Consult with individuals and agencies outside of Cooperative as need arises.

 

  1. Serve as member of multidisciplinary team, providing insight to parents and staff from area of expertise.

 

  1. Communicate with parents through conferences and other means to discuss student progress and needs.

 

  1. Provide recommendations for achieving carryover of skills to classroom and home.

 

  1. Provide a written report of evaluation results for each referral.

 

  1. Continuously measure student progress toward IEP goals and objectives in order to guide planning.

 

  1. Update student progress toward objectives on a nine-week basis.

 

  1. Provide the Cooperative office with current student data as requested and within the specified deadlines.

 

  1. Serve on committees to promote or further the goals and policies of the districts and Cooperative.

 

  1. Perform other duties and responsibilities as determined by the director.

 

  1. Provides written documentation of monthly supervision visits of COTA’s as requested by Kansas Licensure Laws.

 

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

 

  1. Must occasionally work in noisy and crowded environments with numerous interruptions.

 

  1. Requires stooping, kneeling, bending, turning, and reaching.

 

  1. Ability to move equipment within the building as required.

 

  1. May require physical exertion to physically manipulate students and/or equipment.

 

  1. May require some travel.

 

  1. May require home visits.

 

  1. May require early morning/late evening IEP’s.

 

General responsibilities:

 

  1. Establishes and maintains standards of individual student behavior.

 

  1. Selects and requisitions equipment and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.

 

  1. Maintains professional competence through inservice education activities provided by the district and self-selected professional growth activities according to state licensure laws/requirements.

 

  1. Keeps abreast of new developments in the field by reading journals and publications, attending professional society meetings, seminars, and discussing problems of mutual interest with others in the field. Completes continuing education of 40 CEU’s every two years.

 

  1. Provide community education as a resource speaker as requested.

 

  1. Provide on site training for newly hired paraeducators.

 

 

 

Term of employment:               As per negotiated therapist agreement.

 

 

Payment rate:                           According to negotiated contract.

 

 

Evaluation:                               Performance effectiveness will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board of Education Policy of Certified Personnel.
